Rose infused vinegar

8 Jul

You probably saw that I’m currently on holiday on instagram. I’m having the time of my life so far: eating well, exploring nature and learning new things (I’m currently into wild herbs and flowers and what you can do with them). This brings me to today’s post. I never forget you – even if I’m on holiday. Don’t worry. How could I?! I love to take you along! But before I show you pictures of where I’ve been and what I’ve done, I love to share a very easy recipe for rose infused vinegar with you.

All you need is:
– 2 handfuls of rose pedals
– 1 litre white wine vinegar

Put the rose pedals in bottles and top it off with vinegar.

Let it infuse for 2 weeks somewhere bright and shiny and sieve it into sealable bottles.

The rose pedals come from my moms garden and some of the tiny flowers looked like hearts. Aren’t they the cutest?

I already made a salad with this vineagar and it’s really good. The rose flavor is not overpowering but gives a nice depth and slight sophisticated flavor to the salad.

Now after the strawberry vinegar this is my second endeavor in making vinegar and I love it! It’s so easy and quick and makes every salad (and in the hot months I eat lots of those) a special twist.

Try it yourself! It also makes a perfect gift for every foodie.

Now. Carry on!

Strawberry vinegar recipe.

Yesterday I was out and about. Partying if you will. Reminded me why I don’t love going out so much but hanging with friends or going to private parties. There are just too many weird people out there. It’s fun for a night but then? I go home and I’m glad that I don’t have to be out there looking for what the night might bring. Normally it brings nothing but some good stories to tell. That’s something, right? These stories will make me the hero at the next private party.
When I got home at 3 a.m. I was so hungry that I made me some of these. So good and no bad conscious about eating in the middle of the night and having problems sleeping. I slept like a baby – or a toddler because babies don’t actually sleep well. This is a stupid saying.

Well anyway there was not much I did today but sleep in, had breakfast, go out to eat ice-cream and have a (non-alcoholic) drink with my sister and something light for dinner. Like this fantastic strawberry Mozzarella salad. And do you know what’s best about it? The dressing. Because I made it with my homemade strawberry infused vinegar.

All you need is:
– a handful of strawberries
– 400 ml white wine vinegar

Wash the strawberries and cut them into half. Put them into a jar and add the vinegar. Close the lid tightly and let it sit for 1-2 weeks.

Then sieve it through a sieve and fill it in bottles.

For the salad:
– a mixed salad (with rucola and lambs lettuce is the best)
– a handful of fresh strawberries
– buffalo Mozzarella

Rip the Mozzarella into pieces and cut the strawberries. Mix it with the salad and make a dressing with the strawberry infused vinegar, salt, pepper and olive oil.

Tomorrow I have something great for you: a drink. So stay tuned.

But now. Carry on!

More space for cake.

1 Apr

I wasn’t the only one who celebrated her birthday last month. A good friend of mine has her birthday 2 weeks before me. For me the birthday of others is always a good and a bad thing. The good thing is that there’s cake and celebration, the bad thing is I have to think of a present. Don’t get me wrong. I love to give presents to people and I honestly don’t care how much they cost (with a certain rage of course) or that they take a lot of time (for handmade gifts) if I have the feeling the gifted person is genuinely happy with it. I always hesitate to give handmade presents because I always have the feeling that people only like those because of the gesture. Like my mum who got so many paintings from little me. I can’t really imagine how you can make a happy face after the 153rd. (I guess I have to be a mum myself to understand this mystery.)

Well back to the purpose of this post and my friends birthday: she’s a crafter herself and I knew that she would appreciate a handmade gift. That’s why I made her a plate and a cake. I’m actually so happy with the combination: handing over a cake and the plate is for you to keep as well?! Genius. At least that’s what I thought. And I’m sure my friend too. First the hero was the cake …

All you need is:
– 3 eggs
– 1 cup sugar
– 1 cup sour cream
– 1/2 cup oil
– 1 tbsp Vanille sugar
– 1 cup flour
– 1/2 cup poppy seeds
– 1/2 cup chopped dark chocolate
– 1 tbsp baking powder

For the cream & topping
– 1 cup sour cream
– 1/2 cup cream cheese
– 3 Tbsp sugar
– 3 Tbsp poppy seeds
– 1 tsp cinnamon

Preheat the oven to 180 ° C. Beat the eggs with the white sugar and Vanille sugar. Add slowly the oil and sour cream and combine well. Fold in the flour, baking powder, poppy seeds and dark chocolate. Line a baking tray with paper and spread the sponge on the baking parchment. Bake for 20 mins and let it cool down.

For the cream mix the sour cream with the cream cheese and the sugar. Spread it on the cake. Mix the poppy seeds with the cinnamon and sieve it on top of the sheet cake. Voilá!

This cake doesn’t look like much but it’s just so delicious! It could easily be one of my favorite. No. It certainly is one of my favorites!

I made the plate the same way as this Valentine’s day present for my boyfriend and what a surprise it was! The text is german and means “more space for cake”. Unfortunately it’s not dishwasher-safe. My friends tried. Well, such a gem needs to be taken care of, so only washing by hand! Luckily they can just bring me the plate and I restore it. So no harm done!

The cake was gone in no time as you can see…

Now. Carry on!

Presents for the interiour lover.

28 Nov

It’s always tricky to get presents for some people. One of my sister said that she doesn’t understand how gifting her could be difficult (it is) because she basically likes everything (she doesn’t). However I found that if you give something that you put a lot of thought and time into, they never dare to complain. That’s what handmade gifts are for. They don’t need to be perfect but are valued higher than any bought stuff because you dedicated time, work and blood (not literally of course).

As promised I show you some projects I made that could be easily replicated as a Christmas present. This week I themed them for Interior enthusiasts:

Fantastic Mr. Fox.

20 Feb

For all those who don’t follow me on Facebook. My absence on this blog had a reason: I was in Hamburg. Not for pleasure. But still. It’s nice to travel. Also on Facebook (do you see how you miss out if you aren’t a fan. Yeah, that’s a hint.) I did post the bandit fox from Etsy and how sad I was that it was sold out. Some people (I don’t want to say names or point fingers) challenged me to make one myself. What I did. And it was ugly. I made another one. Still pretty – uhm, let’s say – funny looking.

But I can’t use more than two bandit foxes, so here is my own interpretation of the infamous Bandit Fox:

All you need is

  • fabric in the colour orange, black and white
  • black and white thread
  • cotton whool (more than in the picture. That was actually all that was left from my cotton clouds. I had to buy some more.)
  • a scissor
  • fabric glue
  • sewing machine (not in the picture. Mine is a bit camera shy.)

I created a template out of paper. It is easier to adjust the measurements before cutting the fabric but you can still see what it’s going to look like. Then I made all the different parts. In this picutre below there are some parts missing. Can you spot which one?

I sewed all the pieces with my sewing machine, stuffed them with cotton whool and sewed them together to make the fox. I’m really not that good (or patient) when it comes to sewing by hand. However the fox is for my boyfriend and he doesn’t only support me but is my harshest critic. I love him anyway.
Now look what I made! My version of the bandit fox:

I had such a beautiful flower bouquet that reminds me so much of Spring that I had to put it into the pictures.

And here is a close-up of the face of my little bandit fox.

Now. Carry on!
